Refugee claims based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sex characteristics have specific challenges.

This webinar aims to help community workers better understand the difficulties LGBTQI+ people face in making refugee claims and what they can do to support them.

The webinar explores:

  • the challenges LGBTQI+ refugee claimants have in gathering convincing evidence to support their claims
  • the specific difficulties they face in the refugee hearing process
  • how their experiences before and after they move to Canada affect their mental health
  • the injustices they may experience in Canada
  • how important community support is for their mental health and safety
    resources, programs, and services available to them
