Recorded on September 15, 2026
Not all discrimination claims are handled by the Ontario Human Rights Code. The Government of Canada and certain sectors that it regulates must follow the Canadian Human Rights Act. For example, banks, airlines, postal and courier services, and interprovincial trucking, railway, and bus companies follow the Act.
This means, if you’re supporting a client who has experienced discrimination, you must first figure out if they make a complaint to:
- the Canadian Human Rights Commission, or
- the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario.
This webinar explains:
- what the Canadian Human Rights Act is and when it applies
- how the Act is different from the Ontario Human Rights Code
- how to make a human rights complaint under the Act
- where to find helpful resources, including legal information on the Act and how to get a free one-on-one meeting with a lawyer to learn how to make a complaint
Speaker:
Amanda Montague-Reinholdt, Legal and Programs Director, Workers’ Education and Rights Collective
Note: We have provided a handout on important resources and supports from the webinar in PDF form below, along with the recording and PowerPoint slides.
