Legal services
- Aboriginal Legal Services: A legal clinic that provides free legal services, programs, and culturally appropriate alternatives to low-income Aboriginal people living in the City of Toronto. This includes Status, Non-Status, Inuit, Métis, and self-identified Aboriginal people.
- Human Rights Legal Support Centre: An agency that provides free legal information and advice to people who have experienced discrimination. They offer services in many languages, including Cree, Oji-Cree, Mohawk, and Ojibway. They also have an online tool that can help people figure out if their situation might be discrimination.
- Nishnawbe-Aski Nation Legal Services: A legal clinic that provides free legal services, programs, and culturally appropriate alternatives to members of the Nishnawbe Aski Nation.
There are also community legal clinics across the province. Some have programs and staff that support Indigenous communities. Contact your local clinic for more information.
Community organizations
- 2-Spirited People of the 1st Nations: Supports 2-Spirit peoples and First Nations, Métis, and Inuit community members who are at risk of or living with HIV, hepatitis C, and related co-infections.
- Chiefs of Ontario: Represents all First Nations in Ontario and upholds their self‑determination efforts in protecting and exercising their inherent and Treaty rights.
- Métis Nation of Ontario: Provides programs and services, including a culturally responsive advocacy program to support Métis people in conflict with the law.
- Native Women's Association of Canada: Provides programs and advocacy to promote the social, economic, cultural, and political well-being of First Nations, Inuit, and Metis women and girls, and Two-Spirit, transgender, and gender-diverse people.
- Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Centres: Represents the collective interests of Friendship Centres across Ontario and provides culturally based services including Indigenous justice programs in urban communities.
- Survivors Circle for Reproductive Justice: Supports and advocates for reproductive justice for all First Nations, Inuit, and Métis across Canada.
- Tungasuvvingat Inuit: Provides support and services for Inuit living in Ontario, including Gladue reports and restorative justice. Programs are based on the principles of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ), the Inuit way of "knowing".
Wellness supports
- Anishinabek Wellness Portal: A searchable database for the Anishinabek on supports and services in areas such as law, mental health, and employment and education.
- Hope for Wellness Helpline: A 24-hour support line for Indigenous People across Canada. Call 1-855-242-3310 or chat online.
- Feather Carriers: An Indigenous-led national organization focussed on suicide intervention. Rooted in Ojibway, Mohawk, Métis, and English traditions, it offers year-long training circles for community leaders and front-line workers.
- FPWC Knowledge Exchange and Resource Hub: A searchable library of Indigenous mental wellness resources curated by First Peoples Wellness Circle.
- MMIWG Crisis Line: A 24-hour crisis support line for people affected by the issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. Call 1-844-413-6649.
- National Indian Residential School Crisis Line: A 24-hour crisis support line for Residential School survivors and their families. Call 1-866-925-4419.
- Native Youth Crisis Hotline: A 24-hour crisis support hotline for Indigenous youth across Canada. Call 1-877-209-1266.
- Talk4Healing Helpline: A 24-hour helpline for Indigenous women across Ontario run by Beendigen. Call or text 1-855-554-4325 or click on the Live Chat button on their website.
