Why is it important to tell your lawyer you are Aboriginal?

This brochure explains why it is important for First Nation, Métis, and Inuit people to identify themselves as Aboriginal to their lawyers so their lawyers can explore the areas of law that deal with Aboriginal circumstances or rights. It discusses how Canadian law treats Aboriginal people, particularly with regard to the Criminal Code, Youth Criminal Justice Act, and Child and Family Services Act, as well as other considerations a lawyer may need to take into account.
