A Guidebook on Transitional Issues for Refugee Youth

These resources are a toolkit of legal information about common issues faced by refugee youth, and a set of short companion videos addressing some of the key legal topics. The toolkit and videos also provide information about sources for further legal information and advice. They address two major needs of recent refugee youth:

  • addressing the social isolation that most newcomers face when they immigrate to a new country
  • addressing the knowledge gap that they face in Canada due to the laws and regulations of Canada being different than that of the countries they are fleeing

The videos address the following topics in order of their listing below:

  • online safety for youth
  • loitering and its consequences
  • the Canadian immigration and refugee system
  • "persons in need of protection" under Canadian refugee law
  • arrest and detention in relation to refugee law
  • refugee protections claims and inadmissibility
