Review of Provincial and Territorial Domestic Violence Legislation and Implementation Strategies

While the PLEI focus in this comprehensive review is minimal, Section 5 of Part 1 provides interesting insights in terms of the efficacy of various written materials designed to educate the public in connection with this body of legislation. In particular, the author finds that general pamphlets and information sheets for both victims and respondents pertaining to the issuance of an order are well received but that multi-page guides on victims assistance orders are of use only to those who have a considerable degree of literacy and confidence. The most useful public education material is said to be a one sheet description of the information and evidence that would be helpful for clients to assemble for their lawyers.
