Family Violence and the Deaf – Legal Education and Information Issues: A National Needs Assessment

This project provides a review of family law PLEI needs required for the deaf population, with a focus on those who use sign language as their primary mode of communication. Results indicated that few PLEI materials are provided for this target population and that greater steps need be taken in order to effectively deliver PLEI in mediums specific to that population. Few PLEI materials are designed for this community despite a pressing need. The project confirms that there is limited research on this issue, and that PLEI agencies must take a greater interest in addressing it.
