Pro Bono Ontario is a nonprofit organization that seeks to increase access to justice for low-income Ontarians with civil, non-family, legal problems. PBLO develops special projects through law firms, legal clinics, or community-based organizations to provide free legal services to eligible members of the public. These services are also available for nonprofit or charitable groups.
Pro Bono Ontario offers a free program to help people who have civil, non-family, matters at the Small Claims Court or Superior Court in Toronto and Ottawa. The program is designed for people who are representing themselves. They offer brief services that include guide books on various civil law topics (including court rules and process), software to help complete court forms, and duty counsel lawyers who provide free legal advice. At times lawyers may be able to represent people in court on that day.
Pro Bono Ontario uses volunteer lawyers, so clients must be low-income to qualify and may have to meet other criteria to be eligible for help.
